While nobody likes bugs around, spraying chemicals to repel spiders and bugs can be more nasty than the annoying insects themselves!
Not to mention these chemical remedies are not safe and far from healthy. Thankfully there are natural remedies to get rid of bugs, especially those frightening, and potentially biting, spiders!
These remedies do work extremely well, are more efficient than the commercial chemical products, and as mentioned are much safer. Check these out:
Spiders can’t stand citrus fruits! So having lemon essential oils can eliminate your spider problem. Rub some lemon peels and oranges where you see spiders, like baseboards, and your spider problem will go away!
You can get rid of spiders from closets with cider. Place cedar blocks in cupboards and closets, and you can use them in your garden. Cedar hangers, which you can purchase, also can keep them away and out of your clothes.
Vinegar has all kinds of benefits, so it might not be a surprise that it can also tackle spiders. The smell keeps not just spiders, but ants and mosquitoes away as well. A natural repellent spray can be had by mixing 1 part vinegar and two parts water, in a spray bottle. Spray this all around the house, as well as the yard, and you will be protected from annoying insects.
Peppermint Essential Oil
Spiders actually despise peppermint and making a natural repellent is easy. Mix 8 drops of essential oil, with some liquid dish soap. This will help spread the oil molecules around in the water of the spray bottle. Add 8 more drops of peppermint essential oil if you feel it doesn’t smell “minty” enough. Shake the bottle well and start spraying!
Mixing vinegar and peppermint is another super natural repellant you can use!
Chestnuts (and other tree nuts)
Chestnuts, walnuts, and horse chestnuts are effective in repelling spiders as the scent they have has a chemical in which spiders cannot stand. Put some on the windowsills and your problem will be solved.
Keep it clean!
Cleanliness is a big part of keeping your home bug free. Floors should be vacuumed and swept. De-clutter your stuff, and get rid of dust.
The outside of the home should be cleaned as well to prevent bugs from lingering around, eventually making their way in your home. Mow your lawn, get rid of clippings, sticks, and other debris. Check gaps in doors and windows so the remaining stragglers can’t get in! Clean balconies, windows and doorways as well.
