Alexander Kenney, a little boy from Coffs Harbour, Australia has a guardian angel. But this one runs on four legs!
In September of 2015, The Kenney family was visiting a friend's property when little Alexander fell into a dam unnoticed. The then two-year-old lost consciousness and was floating face down in the water when the family's Staffordshire Terrier Leala jumped in to save him. When she couldn't, the drenched dog raced back to the house and barked like crazy at David Kenney, father of Alexander.

Leala led David to the water, where he saw his lifeless son floating facedown. The father spent 27 minutes trying to revive his son until the medics arrived. Alexander was flown in a helicopter to the closest hospital in Brisbane where doctors put Alexander into an induced coma. "The doctors said 'be prepared, you may not be taking this boy home and if you do take him home he'll probably have some sort of brain damage,'" Alexander's mom Lisa Brockbank remembers. "From a parent's point of view, it doesn't get much worse."

Just 48 hours later the little fighter astonished everyone: Alexander woke up from the induced coma and began to breathe on his own. The doctors couldn't believe how quickly the child recovered. "It was quite miraculous that he came back so soon and so clear and fine and unchanged," his mother said. Doctors believed correct CPR techniques administered by family friends Jason and Joshua Cluff played a large role in Alexander's recovery. And nobody could forget the heroic actions of Leala the dog!

The two-year-old returned home with his family and recovered marvelously. Leala was very happy to play with  her best friend again. "Without [Leala] we wouldn't have our little boy with us today... " Alexander's mom said.

What a brave four-legged hero! Thanks to the quick instincts of this beloved family dog, David Kenney and Lisa Brockbank still have their son in their arms.
