Caracals are possibly the cutest wild cat species and their babies are definitely the cutest kitties ever. Revered in ancient Egypt, these beautiful cats feature in ancient Egyptian art as paintings, bronze figurines and sculptures guarding pharaohs’ tombs.
Caracals are native to Africa, the Middle East and The Indian subcontinent. Adults weigh up to 40lbs (18kgs) and can run at speeds of up to 50mph (80kmph). Although caracals could be domesticated, don’t expect them behave like an average pet. When playing, they are boisterous and will easily destroy household objects and furniture.
In the wild, caracals hunt small mammals, birds, and rodents, eating two to three pounds (1 to 1.5kg) of meat a day. Gorgeous as they are, these cats, like most wild animals, should ideally be left to live in their natural habitat.
